PROFILE AND NEEDS IN A HOME
Duke is a kelpie mix with other working dog breeds and possibly Labrador.
Beautiful in appearance and nature, Duke is the loveliest gentle puppy. He is an active passive little man who loves people and is a really good cuddler belly rub. He is currently living in a foster home with kids ranging from 5 years to 16 years old. He has quickly adjusted to his new foster home and loves running around the yard and downtime cuddles with the kids and is very gentle with the family's kids so would definitely suit a family home provide the family had time to continue his ongoing training and socialisation.
With his gangly long legs, we expect that he will grow to be a slim medium sized dog between approximately 22 and 25 kg.
Being a kelpie mix he will need an active home where his new family can get him out and about on daily walks to parks, beaches, lakes etc and a home where Duke will be part of the family and included where possible in activities outside of the home.
Duke is looking for a home with another young, friendly playful and well-adjusted non dominant medium/large sized dog that he can romp and play with and can help him learn the ways of the dog world.
As Duke is only very young, he would be best suited to a home where his new family are not away from the home for long periods of time.
Like all of our dogs, Duke must have access to inside at all times and must sleep inside. He isn’t a dog who would be happy being outside all the time away from his family - he wants to be at the center of everything.
His new family must be committed to continue Duke's on-going training using only force-free/positive reward-based training methods so that Duke will continue to develop into a good canine citizen.
House training is going well, however as he is still only young his new family must expect to do additional training in this area using force-free reward-based methods. Advice can be given if needed.
He is an extremely smart puppy, so with ongoing training and consistency will grow up into a lovely, gorgeous doggo.
If you would like to meet this special guy, please send us some details on yourself and the home you are able to provide including your location, contact number, your dog and any other pets (if any), family members, lifestyle, exercise and mental stimulation you will provide, how often Duke would be alone, where he will have access in the home, where Duke would go if you went away and could not take him with you, ability to cover vet expenses and any other information you wish to provide.
Medical notes
The adoption fee includes vet checks, microchip, vaccinations and desexing. Duke is too young to be desexed at this time and his new owner must be able to return him to our vet in Beverly Hills Sydney for his desexing.
Adoption details
SAS will arrange a "meet and greet" with our rescue pet and we offer a two week trial period if we feel that the rescue pet and the prospective family are well matched.
